Parks and squares

Events in parks and squares must be held in a safe and attractive public environment. We thus actively work towards getting the residents of Malmö and visitors to notice, spend time in and enjoy our public spaces.

Our many parks are characterised by canals and attractive trees where visitors can enjoy a picnic on the grass. In Slottsparken, Pildammsparken, Folkets Park and the Bulltofta recreational area there are permanent event sites with access to electricity, water etc. By the sea, e.g. in Västra Hamnen, new parks are cropping up - and they too are suitable for various events. The attractive Mölleplatsen in Slottsparken is a very popular and often used concert venue that is well suited to both rock concerts and family events.

The squares in the city centre and the pedestrian area between Stortorget, Lilla Torg, Gustav Adolfs Torg and Triangeln are used all year round for a wide range of events. Showjumping, for example, has been put on in Stortorget! In Lilla Torg, a popular venue thanks to its well-preserved environment with its attractive buildings and lively entertainment scene, everything from sand sculpting in the summer to skating in the winter is put on. How do I book a venue? It is now the police who issue permits for 'use of public venues'. Applications should be in writing, and venues can be booked in advance. Application forms are available from the police - polisen.se - and from the City of Malmö - malmo.se/markupplatelse.

Fees and costs
The police charge an application fee for permits, whilst the municipality charges a fee in accordance with the current ground-lease rate in relation to the size of the area and the duration of the event. Examples of further costs are electricity, water and cleaning. What should I bear in mind when applying for a permit? It is a good idea to be clear about what is needed during setup and implementation of an event and when clearing up afterwards, e.g.

Beforehand
- area in m2
- choice of venue
- time needed for setup
- drawing showing positioning of stages, tents, entrances/exits etc.
- electricity, water, drainage
- parking

During
- public-order and safety considerations that can be summarised in a plan of action. It is important that you know how to contact the police, fire brigade, Environment Department and other authorities affected in the event of an emergency.

Afterwards
- time needed to clear up the venue
- emptying of receptacles, temporary toilets, containers
- inspection
