Project Norra Sorgenfri is run by Malmö Stad, it is a co-operative effort between City Planning Office and Real Estate Office. The method used is a broad dialogue and the objective is a new, amalgamated part of the inner city which connects eastern Malmö with the city centre.
Nearly all of the land in the area is owned by private property owners, in total about thirty, who all have their own expectations and ambitions. The Municipality is in charge of running and co-coordinating the transformation. The work is long-term and will successively lead to a transformation of the physical structure where older businesses and operations co-exist with new functions and buildings.
A vision-programme for Norra Sorgenfri was developed in 2006 as a basis for discussion and developing ideas for the area. It dealt with the main principals for the transformation of the industrial area.
With the vision-programme as a basis, a plan has been developed for 2008. It includes guidelines for buildings, streets and properties in the area - all based on objectives such as participation, small-scale operations and increased integration in Malmö.
